I recently had the opportunity to meet with Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Deena Hinshaw for an update on our province’s COVID-19 response, and our visit only served to strengthen my deep appreciation for the selfless service that Albertans have been offering throughout this challenging time.

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who is working to bring us safely through the pandemic. This includes:  Dr. Hinshaw and all team members at Alberta Health Service and Alberta Health and Wellness; our tireless doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health care team members; our dedicated teachers, school administrators and school support staff; and all the hardworking citizens who keep our communities safe and moving forward such as municipal leaders, first responders, business owners and community volunteers.  Your strength, perseverance and compassion is what gives me hope for brighter days ahead.

Everyone has been bringing their best to this fight and, as tired as we may be, now is not the time to let our guard down. I encourage all Albertans to keep informed and to do whatever you can to follow COVID guidelines. In doing so, we can keep ourselves healthy and shield our loved ones and the most vulnerable among us from this terrible disease.

Again, thank you to everyone for your important efforts to date and stay safe!

Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc., Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
