In keeping with current restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lieutenant Governor will not be hosting the traditional New Year’s Day Levee for 2021.

“I regret that I am not able to meet with Albertans to mark the New Year but I hope to be able to welcome people back to Government House for ceremonies and celebrations one day soon,” said Lieutenant Governor Salma Lakhani. “In the meantime, I offer my heartfelt thanks to all those who are working on the frontlines to keep us healthy and safe and all those who are working at the grassroots level to keep our communities caring, strong, hopeful and resilient.”

Although the Lieutenant Governor is unable to offer holiday wishes to people in person at the levee, video messages are available on YouTube or by following Her Honour on Twitter @LtGovAB. Videos include a holiday message and a message of hope which is the first in a coming series.

Note: Radio stations can access.mp3 versions of the messages from the media contact below.

The levee has been cancelled numerous times in the past due to various circumstances, including illness of the Lieutenant Governor of the day.
