International Women’s Day for 2022 comes at an unusual and somewhat unsettling time. Many of us are beginning to reconnect with communities and reshape routines that were put on hold during the pandemic. We are also troubled by recent events unfolding in parts of the world and are shaken by threats to the precious peace that should be the right of everyone. While we hope and pray for peace around the globe, let us also recommit to taking the time and the making room in our own communities so that everyone can enjoy opportunities to thrive. When we foster a peaceful, healthy and hopeful future for women and girls, we are building a strong and vibrant society for all.

I offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone who works to support women and girls, here at home and around the world. I am deeply inspired by the mentors, leaders and innovators of all ages who are leading the way, and I look forward to seeing where your bright examples and ongoing efforts take us in the future.

Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc., LLD (hon), Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
