Victoria Day is a much-anticipated holiday for Canadians. In addition to honouring the Queen and reflecting the history and importance of the Crown in Canada, this day is our unofficial start of summer after the long winter.  These past months have been difficult ones for us all as we worked together to come through the pandemic, but we have every reason to look to the summer with optimism. Vaccines have been rolling out across Alberta and we are taking an exciting step forward with every single dose that is administered.

I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to the countless people who have been on the frontlines throughout this challenging time. Words cannot express the debt of gratitude that your fellow Albertans owe you for the extraordinary compassion, strength and endurance that you have brought to the fight. To all Albertans, I encourage you to take part in the vaccination program, if you haven’t already done so, and to follow up with your second dose when it becomes available to you. In doing so, we can each play a vital role in the return to community life and the shared celebration of special days like this.

Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc., Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
