118 years ago today Alberta became a province.

Albertans are compassionate people who have consistently shown dedication to uplifting the communities around them, supporting them to be strong healthy and prosperous. During my travels around the province, I am repeatedly struck by the energy, grit and heart of my fellow Albertans.

Today is an opportunity to pay tribute and recognize all the remarkable people who have shaped our province, and to celebrate this place we are so proud to call home.

As His Majesty the King’s representative in Alberta, it is my pleasure to wish everyone a most enjoyable celebration as we mark Alberta Day. I offer my heartfelt thanks to each of you for the gifts you share with your fellow Albertans every single day.

Happy birthday to our beautiful province!

Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, AOE, BSc, LLD (hon)

Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
