Victoria Day became an official holiday for Canadians in 1901 to mark the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and it continues to serve as a reminder of the important history and traditions of the Crown in Canada. On this day in 2005, Albertans were excited to welcome Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to our province for a special Royal Tour in honour of Alberta’s Centennial, and this summer and fall we can look forward to events to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, in celebration the rich legacy of service that our Queen of Canada has offered over the past 70 years.

To everyone, I wish you a very enjoyable Victoria Day with family and friends, and I trust that it will mark the beginning of a wonderful summer to come!

Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc.

Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
