Following is a message from Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Salma Lakhani to mark 2021. Please note that the traditional New Year’s Day Levee has been cancelled this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“As we say goodbye to 2020, a year that has carried so many challenges for every one of us, it is important to take a moment and reflect on the positive things in our lives. These include the support of family and friends, the natural beauty that surrounds us, and the simple joys that can mean so much like a special treat, a caring word or a helping hand.

“Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can have the greatest impact on others, and often, by lifting up someone else we raise our own spirits in turn. Let us all make a New Year’s resolution to share our strengths, to focus on, and be grateful for the good around us and to ripple that goodness out to others. Collectively, we can build on the compassion, hope and well-being in our communities, simply by sharing the best of who we are.

“As Her Majesty the Queen’s representative in Alberta, I send my heartfelt wishes to everyone for a Happy New Year. May 2021 bring you all the blessings of health, peace, hope and love.”  Her Honour the Honourable Salma Lakhani
