The theme for National Volunteer Week 2021 is an idea that holds particular meaning in these extraordinary times. Value of One, Power of Many reminds us that our individual actions and contributions play an important role in realizing the shared vision we hold for a stronger, healthier and more compassionate future. This past year has brought unique challenges for volunteers, as well as the communities and organizations that we serve. Dedicated citizens across our province have been asked to respond to new needs for support brought on by the pandemic, while simultaneously rethinking the way we reach out to, and work with, one another. Alberta’s volunteers have responded to that call with an inspiring degree of caring, innovation and energy. Individuals from every corner of the province have shown the value of one and, together, our volunteers have brought comfort and hope to countless people here at home and around the world.
As Her Majesty the Queen’s representative in Alberta, I offer my heartfelt thanks to tireless and thoughtful volunteers among us who step forward to serve. I can’t imagine what our world would be like without your sustained commitment to sharing your best with us all.
Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc.
Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
