The inestimable Fred Rogers once said that “anyone who does anything to help a child is a hero to me.” I wholeheartedly echo that sentiment, and it seems all the more fitting in this challenging moment in our history. Across our province, there are tireless individuals and teams who are working long hours and finding innovative new ways to ensure that young Albertans receive the supports they need to be healthy, to learn and to reach their fullest potential.
As we mark National Child Day, I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the teachers, child care workers, health professionals, advocates, community volunteers, coaches and mentors among us for helping children to flourish and grow into strong and confident adults. The energy, talent and compassion that you share are essential to the future of our children and our society as a whole. To Alberta parents and guardians, I know just how challenging and rewarding the role can be, and I wish you infinite patience and success. To every child, I wish you love and I encourage you to continue exploring, learning and sharing who you are with us all!
Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc., Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
