As we begin World Interfaith Harmony Week for 2022, we find ourselves at a time when it seems that everyone’s patience has been stretched, and understandably so, by changes that continue to force us from our respective comfort zones. I firmly believe that the way forward through any challenge is for each of us to remember, and to live by, the principles of a peaceful and civil society that stand at the heart of who we are as Canadians. Despite our differences of faith, culture or walk of life, we must continue to find and celebrate the common humanity that binds us together. We can overcome any issue through thoughtful dialogue and compassion for everyone in our communities. When we take time to listen and learn about others, we are helping to build the caring society that we all need and deserve.
I offer my sincere thanks to everyone who works to promote civil discourse and interfaith understanding across our province. While this process is not always easy it is essential, and your contributions are invaluable to the health and well-being of the home that we are truly blessed to share.
Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc., LLD (hon), Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
