The terrible discovery of a mass burial site at the Kamloops Residential School stands as a stark reminder for us all. While we can never remove the pain and intergenerational trauma that this system visited on First Nations, Inuit and Metis families, we must continue to actively commit ourselves to the ongoing process of Truth and Reconciliation.
My heart is pained by so many innocent lives tragically lost and futures denied. May those affected find some measure of peace in the vigils being held across our country and may we strive to build a better future for us all. With June being Indigenous History Month, this is a important and timely opportunity for us all to continue learning as much as we can.
Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc.
Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
