The United Nations has set “Youth Standing Up Against Racism” as the theme for the 2021 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This reinforces the tremendous power that even the youngest voices can have in ongoing efforts to make our communities safer, kinder and more accepting for all people. The theme also reminds us of the end goal of annual observances such as this. We must continue to work together to build a future where no child faces the sting of racism and where all children enjoy equal opportunities to grow, to learn and to dream.
As Her Majesty the Queen’s representative in Alberta, I would like to recognize the countless individuals and organizations who stand united against the destructive forces of discrimination and intolerance. Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your dedication to promoting awareness, to celebrating diversity, and to fostering understanding here at home and around the world.
Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani AOE, B.Sc.
Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
