“With the death of the Honourable Norman Kwong, Albertans and all Canadians have lost an exceptional leader and role model. He exemplified the power of hard work and persistence, gracefully overcoming cultural and ethnic barriers of the past with trademark wit, warmth and dignity.

“Norman Kwong’s accomplishments were many and varied. His storied football career thrilled fans and created records that continued to stand decades after he retired from the sport. His role as a pioneering member of the Chinese Canadian community inspired generations and forged a path to success for others to follow. And his great love for Alberta and Canada fostered a deeper sense of national pride in us all.

“Former Lieutenant Governor Kwong will long be remembered for the quiet strength, innate kindness and sense of humour that he brought to his duties as Alberta’s vice-regal representative and to a lifetime of sterling service and citizenship. He will be missed.

“Doug and I join with all Albertans in extending deepest condolences to Mary Kwong and all members of the Kwong family, and we offer sincere thanks for the enduring legacy that he leaves behind.”

- Her Honour, the Honourable Lois E. Mitchell
  Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
